Daphne had a solid foundation in mechanics and electromagnetism, and those applications would form the context for the calculus lessons that they would start in the fall while Daphne drew pictures of princesses and penguins in advanced algebra. (The penguins usually won after bloodbaths that could take up half a notebook page of minutely detailed illustration, but ever since Tubby had pointed out the considerable technological and neurocognitive advantages of princesses, Daphne would condescend to hand them the occasional Pyrrhic triumph.)
